Well, I am amazed not to see any EVERTS on this site.  Contact me if the names Peter Everts and Anna M Everts of New Douglas Illinois are familiar to you.  They are my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother.

My name is Dewey Leon Everts Jr.,  my old man was Sr, born in 1898, his father was John, born in 1876 and his father was Peter. Peter and Anna were born in Ostfriesland.  Anna's folks were born in Hanover.  Peter's folks were born in Ostfriesland. Peter was born in 1830 and Anna in 1837.  They moved to New Douglas Illinois, Madison County, (New Douglas Township). where all of their children were born, as far as I know.  The census record in 1880 starts with aunt Mini, and I am sure there was a Lucien Everts before her.  They had two sons named Karl.  Karl was born between aunt Lena and Aunt Anna and when he died they named another boy Karl although the census shows him as Charles. They were farmers and from what Grandpa John Everts said, were quite well to do by those days standards.  They had acreage on the south end of town.  If you would like to go to the 1880 U S census on family LSD, you will find beaucoup people who migrated to Madison County who came from Ostfriesand.  Peter and a bunch of others all came at the same time.  I think they were cousins of Peters. Write to me if you are interested.

Hello - I am doing family research on the surname Hillrichs or any variation of it.  My great grandfather John Hillrichs was born 11 Apr 1863 in Emden, Ostfriesland, Germany.  I am not sure what year he came to America or who he traveled with.  He settled in the area of Atlanta, Illinois and was a prominent farmer there.  He married Amelia Kurtz in 1888.  She died in 1894, and he married his second wife Minnie Klemm.  John died 23 Oct 1944 in Atlanta, Illinois when he was struck by a train near his farm.  He had a son, Louie Hillrichs, with wife Amelia, and a daughter, Irma Hillrichs, with Minnie.  If anyone has any information on the Hillrichs family, I would love to hear from you.  Thanks!  Sheryl Dailey

My greatgrandfather was Herman O. KROMMINGA (KROMINGA) b. July 9, 1850 in Ihrhove, Germany.  His wife was Jennie (Janna?) BORCHERS b. Dec. 15, 1857 possibly in the same area.  They immigrated in 1884 with their two children Lena, and Everett. Three more children were born in the USA, Stacy, Harry and my grandmother Minnie Hanna.  They lived in Albert Lea, Minnesota and also Abbotts Crossing, Iowa.  Other towns in Germany they may have lived in are Leers and Breinermoor.  I can not find Ihrhove or Breinermoor on my map of Germany.  Would they be
North Germany near Bremen?  Also I can not locate what port they would have entered the US.  I would think Castle Garden but I have not been able to locate them in the Germans to America books.  Could they have come in in Canada? If so what port?  Thank you for any help you can give me.

My great grandfather was Hango Jibben Fisher (originally Fischer) who emigrated from Holtrop, Ostfriesland to the United States around 1866.  He was born July 15, 1845 in Schirum, Ostfriesland and died in Iota, LA on February 26, 1910.  Father was Nanne Harms Fischer from Rechtsupweg/Marienhafe (1803-1866) and
his mother was Mareke Cornelia Poppinga from Theene (1809-1892).  His siblings were: Metje Johanna Fischer, Harm Davids Fischer, Daniel Ippen Fischer, and Foolke Talida Fischer.

I believe that Hango, his sister Metje Johannan and possibly his brother Daniel Ippen Fisher were emigrees to America.  First known destination was New York City (1866 - 1868), then west to Saint Louis, MO (1868-1869) then on to the town of Quincy in Adams County, IL where Hango applied for U. S. Citizenship in March 1869 and finally traveled to New Orleans, LA (1870-1872) where he obtained a homestead grant on June 26, 1872 and his U. S. citizenship on July 1, 1872.

Hango married Mena Willer Miller (Possibly Wilhelmina Miller or Minna Miller) in New Orleans, LA on February 13, 1873, and later settled and raised his family in Iota, LA.  I have no information on Mena other than her parents may have emigrated from Switzerland shortly before her birth in New Orleans in 1851.

Records in Ostfriesland indicate that Hango's youngest sister, Foolke Talida Fischer, married a man named Heere Jelschen.  They had seven children, a daughter who may have died shortly after birth, un-named, another daughter who died within a year of her birth, and then five surviving until adulthood.  The surviving children were Daniel Ippen Jelschen,  Hermann Janssen Jelschen, Mareke Cornelia Heeren Jelschen, and Behrend Focken Jelschen.  Records show that Heere Jelschen died in Steinberg in 1935, Herman died in Holtrop/Felde on February 23, 1966, and Mareke in Onern-Steinberg on May 17, 1968.

Hango's children had spouses with the surnames of Bartlett, Cart, Dommert, Estorge, Menou, Miller, Richard, Sellers, and Vining.  All lived a majority of their lives in Louisiana or Texas.

If any of these names and places figure in your ancestry, please let me know.  If anyone can help research this information further at the local level (I live in Maryland), your help would be greatly appreciated. Stephen H. Fisher, Rockville, MD

I am still looking for information on MARTIN DAHLMAN who was my great-grandfather.   He immigrated in the 1870's with his parents and siblings from Bremen.  He lived in the Grundy County, Iowa area until at least 1882 when he was widowed leaving him with two small children.  It is known he remarried but we do not know to whom.  There were at least three children born to the second
marriage--Earl, Violet and Josephine.  When my grandmother last heard from him, it was from Saskatchewan, Canada.  Perhaps a descendant of the second family has information.

My gggrdf was JOHN HARMILIN b.1803 and left his family and came here to Canada..The reason he gave for leaving was that his father, an officer in the army wanted him to join as his four brothers had done.  The 1871 Canada census shows him born in Germany and ethnic origin as French. On the death certificate he was listed as JOHN [EDWARD BOMEN] HARMILIN...
Military records would probably be a source but don't know which country to look..??
Hopefully someone may notice while searching.  Thanks for ANY HELP...   Keith Dinsdale

We believe my grandfather, Johann Luken Gerdes, immigrated in 1866 with his fathers half sister Anna Ehmen Behrends. With them came Anna's son Behrend Albert and family, Geret {George} and Altje. They sailed on the Marco Polo to New Orleans , then up the river to the Carthage IL area. There were cousin named Fecht in that area  who had immigrated earlier. The Behrends in 1887 moved to the Clara City Mn area due to land costs. My grandfathers family came in 1868, went to  NW Mo and in 1883 southern Ne. It could be that there hasn't been communication for a 100 years or more. I'm wondering if any one from the Mn Behrends area is into genealogy and would like to exchange information. This family information came to my attention just recently. Gerald

My name is Bill HINTE, I am the Australia part of the HINTE surname project, attempting to
connect the various branches of the HINTE surname , world wide.
Currently HINTES from  five countries are assisting this project with data. I would be grateful
for ANY DATA on the HINTE surname, that elusive little piece of information may well be the
data that would allow us to connect another branch of the family.
Our present dilemma is the inability to connect two major branches. The Bremen HINTES to the
Essen/Oberhausen/Minden HINTES of Germany. We believe that the Essen HINTES did come
from the northern region of Germany, however we have no actual proof of this.
This problem is a major goal of ours at this time, however we are more than happy to obtain any
data at all on the HINTE surname.

out for sure where the exact village he was born in. Tetje' I have found was born in Holland- so

I have several ancestors listed as having been in Oldenberg. It took me quite a while to realize that Oldenberg was not a town but a region. Can anyone help me with these questions?
What were the boundaries of Oldenberg between 1830 and 1880?
Were there any other political districts between a town and Oldenberg or between Oldenberg and Prussia? (In the USA we have city, county, state, country)
Since this question may come up again, are there any internet sources for this information?

Hello !  I just found this site. My Great-grandfather, Johann Wilhelm Schwitters, became a US Citizen in 1854, after at least five years in the US, & my branch of the Schwitters Family has always lived in the Philadelphia PA area. I know we are a small family, scattered across the US,  the Netherlands
& Germany, but I have been unable to connect my Great Grandfather  back to his ship of  immigration, or to his hometown in the Kingdom of Hannover (which included parts of Ostfriesland at the time, in consequence of the Congress of Vienna handing over this formerly Prussian territory to the Hannoverian Crown). He was born around 1824/25, & I think my Grandfather Georg Carl Schwitters, & a brother, Georg Christian Schwitters came with him to USA as children, though I'm not certain of that. Time & $ are very limited at this time, so any help someone might be able to render, if interested, would be most graciously appreciated. Respectfully,  F.W. Paul J. Schwitters

Tasso may have been married before he came to America.  I'm looking for info his earlier life both here and abroad.  Siblings, parents, where he actually came from. He worked with draft horses, importing them.  Maybe related to Oltmanns of that area.  Any help deeply appreciated.  Thanks Bob Rigney

Lydia died June 25, 1880 and Albert died May 06, 1882. The children were separated and farmed out to different families but got back together later.
Lydia was from West Point, Nebraska but after their marriage they lived in Omaha, Nebraska from 1870 to 1878. They then moved to Wisner, Nebraska until both of their deaths. Albert was listed as a BUTCHER and STOCKBUYER.  Between the date of Lydia's death, June 25, 1880 and his death, May 06, 1882, Albert returned to Prussia to visit his family. The only information we have his that his father was deceased, no first name, his mother's maiden name was MARY SUPKA and that he had 4 brother and 2 sisters. We would like to hear from any descendants of Albert's brothers and sisters either in the US or in Germany or Poland.

Hello, I am Bill Querengesser. Born in Ontario, Canada now living in Panama City Beach, Florida. My ancestry came from Friedebach, Thuringia, Germany between 1852-1855. We have traced Querengässer back to 1446. According to research my cousin in Germany has done, the name originates in Friesland around the North Sea area.

I attended Michael's seminar in Panama City on 2/8/03 and with his hand out material found this site. As I explained to Michael, the two words that really got my attention was Friesland and Thuringia. I am very interested in learning more about my ancestry's origin and that part of the  world.

As I stated in an earlier e-mail, the name Querengesser, reportedly, originates in Friesland and the North Sea area. I have two crests, a Horsegod and a Coat of Arms, that may help in proving this fact. I would appreciate your review of this information and hopefully you'll able to confirm that I am of Friesen descent.  Regards, Bill Querengesser
