I am interested in buying the Churches of Ostfriesland book. I try not to use my credit cards as I was ripped of a couple of times. Can I order it from you by paying with a check? My grand father was born in Grimersum Ostfriesland on November 29, 1908. He went back to Ostfriesland in the 1980's and preformed a couple of sevices at the church near his birthplace. Please email me with the address that I can send a check or money order for the book. Thank you!!!

We have traced the German Tiddens back to Harm Hinderks Tiddens born in 1761. We are trying to connect the German Tiddens to the Dutch Tiddens. We have made many contacts with Tiddens in Germany and in the Netherlands, and we have a web site for our family tree and all of this information that I can refer you to. A Tiddens crest has been discovered on a bridge and there is a complete book of genealogy on Netherlands Tiddens (but it is in Dutch). I can e- mail it to you. We are traveling with my father to Ostfriesland (especially Ditzum) in April 2004 to meet relatives and visit grave sites. Let us know if you have any interest or informaton about the Tiddens.

13 APR 2004Frank Fries frank_fries@hotmail.com Canada
Just browsing. If my Fries ancestors originated from Ostfriesland, it was many hundreds of years ago. The furthest back I've been able to go is that my Fries family migrated from southern Germany (likely the Palatinate) to the military borderlands (present-day western Romania) of the Austro-Hungarian empire in the 1730s. They subsequently emigrated to the US in 1912, then to Canada in 1920.

15 JUL 2004Terry L. Ommen histerry@comcast.net California USA
Hi: My name is Terry L. Ommen. I live in California and I was born in Minnesota and recently attended a family reunion there and we decided to make a family trip to our ancesters home in Germany. I was asked to put this thing together so I am in the early stages of trying to begin. I am told the Ommens were from Ostfriesland Germany but somehow I need to confirm the Ommen name there. I have names that date back to the early 1800s. It is important that we go to the ancester home towns and see cemeteries and churhes and relatives if we can find them. I would very much like some ideas on how to begin such a task. I guess first I need to find all the hometowns in Germany then search for relatives then create a travel itenerary that gets us there. We are targeting July 2005 for 10 days. We could get as many as a couple dozen Ommens. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't know much about Genealogical research, but do have some family history material. Thanks Terry

I need to find information about a Benjamin Bowers and especially his wife. Benjamin was born in 1824 in Frankfort and settled in Nemaha Co, NE. I believe his wife was Ann ot Amthe Dickman and lived in the Auburn, NE area when she died in the 1860's. Dickman may not even be her last name. She had a daughter around her time of death that was my husband's great great grandmother. The 1860's census is the source that I found my info. i have searched the Auburn area and I get nowhere.

Moin Moin!!! I am from Ostfriesland and live in California now about 2 years. At first I've got to say that you got a really super website! I am married to an American and we decided to move back to wonderful Ostfriesland next year. Now I wanted to ask you if you something about American Companies in Ostfriesland, because I think it would be easier for my husband to work for an American Company in the beginning because he doesn't speak German or Plattduetsch so good yet. I would be very thankful for an answer. Wish you a nice day and keep on going with your webside!!!

Jan is the brother of my grandfather Egbert Hilbrands, after whom I was named. Thank You. Regards Egbert Hilbrands.

I enjoy the newsletter that I receive. I am of Friesan decent and have traveled to Ostfriesland twice, once in 2001 and this summer. Through the internet I have found many relatives in Ostfriesland, my father's first cousin and her family. It has been a wonderful experience. My Gocken relatives (the ones I am in contact with) live in Schottjer- Dreesher, which is very near Marienhafe. This summer is found a lot of information on the Schier's from Uttum, the Brun's from Grimerson. Also the Engelkes's and the Groen's. Would love to hear from any of you with common realtives as would like to find some of the Schier's, Brun's, Engelkes's and Groen's. All of my grandparents immigrated to the German Church area near Oregon, Illinois. Many of their desendents still live in this area.

Searching for Henry Heuton and his wife Gretje Willues Bohlen. Henry died 1862 in Ostfriesland. Their children were born in Ludwigsdorf Ostfriesland. If anyone has a copy of the Bangstede OSB-wondering if any Heuton's are listed. If anyone has information on the Ihlowerfehn parish- wondering if any Heuton's are listed. They were Lutheran religion. I am researching what American port Gretje Bohlen came through, approx. 1868, probably with sons-one of which was Wilhelm Heuton. They settled in Adams Co. Illinois, 1868. 1870 Wilhelm Heuton bought land in Champagne Co. Illinois. They eventually moved to Glidden, Carroll Co. IA. The information about Wilhelm Heuton and his settlement in Adams Co. & Champagne Co. Illinois, I got from The Carroll Democrat newspaper. In the "Germans To America" books, there is only John Heuton listed. I have been unable to find the port of entry for the other 5 Heuton brothers and their mother. Does anyone have information on Ludwigsdorf Ostfriesland? I have a map of Germany and know the location of Ludwigsdorf. I am assuming that they left by way of Bremen. They probably took the cheap route. Questioning if they may have went to Liverpool Britain, then onto America? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

For those who attended an "Ostfriese" church here in the United States, before WW II, you may be interested in http://www.ci.boerne.tx.us/bible.new.html which concerns a rare copy of the Bible printed in the Low German language. We remember that the pastor would read the Bible verses in High German when conducting the church service. So, I am wondering if any pastor in an Ostfriese (US) church would deliver a sermon in the Low German language?

I am researching my husband's family name which is Pronio. His grandmother of German descent and settled in Managua, Nicaragua. It is believed that this last name is of German descent but was altered somehow. His grandmother's name was Angela Pronio and she had a son, Raul Enrique Pronio Zuniga ( the name of his firt wife is Yolanda and still keeps the last name of Pronio), Julio Bunge Pronio ( somehow affiliated with Ferreteria Bunge in Managua), and a daughter by the name of Socorro Pronio. Angela Pronio passed away on August 2, 1899 and passed away on June, 1978 in San Francisco, CA. If anyone can give me any information it would be greatly appreciated.
