Dear Sir: I discovered your genealogy site just a few moments ago. Would you please tell me if you have any knowledge of the following family: Magdalena Kloppenburg b. September 17, 1852 in Germany. Married Adolf Frederich Christian Furst/Fuerst. Two children born in Germany....Richard and Ann.... Family moved to USA in about 1881 and settled in Iowa where they had several more children. They then moved to Nebraska where several more children were born. These are my wife's grandparents and she would like to know more about them. Family tradition is that they came from Schlweig-Holstein, Germany but we have no proof. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted. Sincerely, Del Chausse 1809 Mesa Road Paso Robles, Ca.

/*What is the diferance of Friesland, E. friesland and Hanover Ostfriesland, Germany. Is one Netherlands and one Germany,Ancestorsfrom there and I'm a little confused. Thank You*/ Frisians are a germanic tribe. Frisian is a minority language (about 3000 speakers) (e.g. sater frisian in Emsland) Ostfriesland (Ostfreesland in platt) is the part of coastal area between Wilhelmshaven and Emden/Leer=Dutch border, that never belonged to "Oldenburg". Friesland today is district east of Ostfriesland. (areas that belonded to Oldenburg, Wilhelmshaven excluded) friesland also is a province of the Netherlands (west of Ostfriesland)) And there is also a region called (West)friesland in Schleswig-holstein. Friesland is at the north sea. In all this regions Plattdeutsch=niederdeutsch was spoken. The regions are very similar in climate and conditions. OST=east Hanover = Hannover is the Capital of Lower Saxony, a federal stated formed after WWII. the region where hannover is located is different (less coastal).

I am researching my husband's family tree. His gg grandfather was born in the Ostfiesland, Germany area in the mid-1800s. He married Hillie Marie Jaust who was also born in Germany. The came to the US before 12 Dec 1964, when they had my husband's great-grandfather, Herman Harms. Census forms show Herman was born in Illinois (I think in Beth Alto). I think Herman had an older sister, Anna (who married Carl Schatz, and a younger sister who married a man with the last name of Iben. Herman Harms married Marie Florendine Hertz 31 Mar 1891. I would appreciate any help in finding more family history. Thanks in advance. Great site, hope to have the opportunity to use it further. Becky

Greetings from the shores of Ostfriesland to those that originate from here. Am flabberghastet to see that there is a site in english about Ostfriesland, but am also happy to see that not only Ostfriesen tend to stick together in their "own lands", but also whereever they may go to! Beste Grüße!

What are the dates for your 2004 events? I am Dina Schoenthat Butcher whose parents Margaret(Vienna) and Siegbert came to US in Nov. of 1939 from Schott bei Marienhafe in Kreis Norden. Their sponsor was John Ukena who lived in Gordon Neb. where I was born in 1940. We moved to Griggstown NJ in 1944, back to Germany in 1955 and to King George Va. in 1958. My parents are both deceased. My sister, Foli Taylor has stayed in touch with all the living Ulferts and Vienna relatives in Ostfriesland. My first cousins both named Gerhard Vienna live in Morristown, NJ and King George, Va. ( Each are sons of my Mother's two brothers.) I also have a brother Gerhard who lives in Bland, Va. and another brother Nanno who lives in Wytheville , Va. I do speak and understand Ostfriesich Platt and still enjoy the real tee ritual.

My Grandfathers father and mother were born in Ostfriesland. He in 1830 and her in 1837. His name was Peter Everts and her name was Anna M. Everts. I don't know what the M stood for. Anna's father and mother were born in Hanover. If you have access to the U. S. census for 1880 you can find the family from Minnie to Charles. My Grandfather was John. I don't think any of them had middle names. The migrated to Madison County Illinois to a village of New Douglas, were he had 20 acres of farm land. My grandfather John was raised on that farm. I think that Peter was 50 in 1880 and my Grandfather John, was 4 making him born in l875 in New Douglas. I will have to do some more checking because other relatives came from Ostfriesland as well and settled in Madison County Illinois, New Douglas Township
