My name is Adam J. Willemssen and I'm looking to find either a Coat of Arms/Family Crest for the Willemssen family name. My families name has roots in the Ostfriesland region. An excerpt from www.willemssen.com shows how my line of Willemssen’s started: “The Willemssen Family all began with Willem Janssen and Trintje Hinders, both born in the 1700's in Ostfriesland, Germany. Willem Willemssen was born in Rorichum, Ostfriesland, Germany.” I’ve been able to find the Arms for other Willemssen lines but none with the above origin. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Adam J. Willemssen

One of my ancestors is Garrelt Tiberius Harders, born in Leer in 1797. He married Engelina Aper, born in 1798 in Terborg. Garrelt was a minister in the Reformed Church who later moved to Wirdum in Friesland. They had a son Ikenius Immo (born in 1829), who contrary to custom, was not named after the mother's father. I would like to find out where the name Ikenius Immo came from, as it is very unusual, and not a normal Dutch/Frisian/German name.

I am starting to get intrested in my family history and where I came from. I can recall my great grandparents speaking a form of dutch. Reading what is available on this site, I think this may be a great place to start. My surname is Fuls, and also my fathers mothers last name was Koch. The majority of my family lived in the Pittsburgh, PA area for a few generations. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or know anything about my family names. I have noticed Fuls is not very common and hard to find info on. Thanks.

Monday, July 23, 2007 — Brian A. Muza brianmuza@msn.com
I am trying (in vain, of course) to find any information available concerning my paternal great-grandmother, Suzanna Poppenga. I am unsure of the spellings of either name, but she came to the U.S. from Ostfriesland/East Friesland sometime in the last decade of the 19th century or the first decade of the 20th. She has been variously described to me by my family as either German, Dutch or Danish...! I realize the proximity of these countries is sufficient to create confusion, but I can't find anyone who can help me sort all of this out. Suzanna Poppenga (sp?) married my paternal great-grandfather, John Muza (from Poland), and settled in the Chicago/Lamont, IL area. Both have been dead for at least sixty years. I take great pride in my family and European heritage, and I would like nothing more than to clear up the issue of my great-grandmother's ethnic origin (i.e., am I German, Dutch or Danish?). Any assistance is greatly appreciated. God bless!

Tuesday, August 14, 2007 — Rebecca Palmer rebecca@manifestyourdreams.com.au
Hi I'm trying to find out more details about my great-grandfather who came from Borkum (probably born around 1860) and then moved to London later on. I think he was married once either on Borkum or in Germany and then he married my great-grandmother in London. He died in the German Church in London in 1899 or 1900. His name was John Laws (perhaps Johann Laws?) and he eventually established a furniture factory/business in London so don't know whether cabinetmaking was his family's background. Anyway, any threads of information helpful. Thanks and have a lovely week. All the best Rebecca Palmer

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 — John Boysen john.boysen@att.net
My grandfather was born in OstBordelum, Schleswig-Holstein in 1859. His parents died and he went in 1864 to Flensburg to live with an uncle. He came to America in 1881 following a two year draft stint in the Prussian Army. I have researched church books in Ost Nordelum and Bredstedt personally, but have no information from/about his time in Flensburg, except that his uncle was a wheelwright and my grandfather was apprenticed as a butcher. Do you have sources that could help me?
